Trimming tips

millimeters. The settings correspond to the
remaining hair length after trimming.
- Always comb your hair before you start
trimming.
- When trimming for the first time, start
by using the guard with the maximum
trimming length setting to familiarize
yourself with the product.
- Since hairs do not all grow in the same
direction, you may want to try different
trimming positions (i.e. upwards,
downwards, or across). Practice is best for
optimum results.
- Always make smooth and gentle
movements and make sure that the surface
of the guard always stays in contact with
your skin.

Using the display to set the length
This product has a swipe and tap display that
you can use to set the length in two different
ways:
- Swipe your thumb or a finger across the
touch area to scroll through the length
settings (Fig. 11).
Swipe fast to move up or down the length
settings quickly.
- Tap on the bottom or top part of the touch
area to go through the length settings
one by one. To scroll through the length
settings automatically in steps of 0.1 mm,
tap and hold the bottom or top part of the
touch area (Fig. 12).
Trimming with guard
This product comes with three adjustable
trimming guards.
1 Attach one of the guards to the product
(see 'Attaching and detaching the trimming
guards').
2 Swipe upwards or downwards to select the
desired length setting (Fig. 13).
Note: When you trim for the first time, start
at the highest length setting to familiarize
yourself with the product.
3 Switch on the product.
4 To trim in the most effective way, move the
guard against the direction of hair growth
(Fig. 14). Make sure that the surface of the
guard always stays in contact with the skin.
5 Shake off cut hair from the guard every few
strokes. If a lot of hair has accumulated in
the guard, switch off the product, remove
the guard and blow and/or shake off the
hairs.
6 Switch off and clean the product after each
use (see 'Cleaning').
Note: If the message 'CL' is shown on the
display, too much hair has collected between
the guard and the cutting unit. Remove the
guard and the cutting unit and clean them
with the cleaning brush. Also clean the top
edge of the handle with the cleaning brush.
Trimming without guard
Use the trimmer without the trimming guard
to trim hair close to the skin (to a length of
approx. 1/32 in. or 0.5 mm) or to trim edges
and single hairs.
1 Detach the trimming guard from the
product (see 'Attaching and detaching the
trimming guards').
2 Switch on the product.
3 To trim hair close to the skin, place the flat
side of the cutting element against your
skin and make strokes against the direction
of hair growth.
4 For contouring, hold the cutting element
perpendicular to the skin. Make well-
controlled movements. Touch the hair
lightly with the trimmer (Fig. 15).
Be careful when you trim without a guard
because the cutting unit removes every hair
it touches.
5 Switch off and clean the product after each
use (see 'Cleaning').
Length setting lock
This feature prevents accidental changing of
the length setting during trimming. Every time
you switch on the product, the length setting
lock is activated. You can only change the
length setting if you switch off the product.
1 Swipe upwards or downwards to select the
desired length setting (Fig. 13).
2 Switch on the product.
The lock symbol starts to flash (Fig. 20). You
cannot change the length setting anymore.
Note: If you want to select a different length
setting, switch off the product. Swipe on the
display to select the desired length setting
and switch on the product again.
Memory settings
The product has a memory which allows you
to save 3 length settings that you use often.
Saving a setting
1 Swipe upwards or downwards to select the
desired length setting (Fig. 16).
2 To enter the memory, press the 'M' button
for 2 seconds (Fig. 17).
Number 1 starts to flash.
Note: To select number 2 or 3 in the
memory, press the 'M' button again
(Fig. 18), once for number 2 and twice for
number 3.
3 To save a length setting as number 1, 2 or 3
in the memory, press the on/off button for
2 seconds (Fig. 19).
The display shows the word 'SET' when the
length setting has been saved correctly.
Number 1, 2 or 3 lights up continuously to
indicate that the setting has been saved.

for 2 seconds (Fig. 17).
