Winter Watchman

S483B

APPLICATION

With your new Winter Watchman, you can provide your
neighbor with an easy, convenient way to make absolutely
sure your house is warm while you're away. The Winter
Watchman eliminates the chore of daily trips into your
house. Instead your neighbor just looks for a light in your
window. If something should happen and the indoor
temperature falls, the Winter Watchman turns on a lamp
to signal your neighbor. Then, corrective action can be
taken before freeze-up occurs. As long as your neighbor
sees no light your house is warm.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE:

Follow these instructions for establishing a
supplementary protective signal system in your
home:

1.

Select the lamp you want to
signal your neighbor. If
possible, choose a lamp with
two or more bulbs, or a three-
way bulb. *

2.

Place the lamp in a position
where it can be seen through a
window by neighbor.

3.

Turn the lamp on. If using two
or more bulbs, or a three-way
bulb, turn to the brightest
intensity.* This way, if brightest
intensity burns out, the lamp
will remain on at the lower
intensity.

4.

Leave the lamp switch in the
“on” position and remove the
lamp plug from outlet.

5.

Plug Winter Watchman into an
inside wall electrical outlet
(away from the cold drafts of an
outer wall so as not to set off a
false signal.) **

6.

Plug the lamp into Winter
Watchman. It may be necessary
to use an extension cord to
reach the Winter Watchman
without moving the lamp. **

7.

Turn the dial on the Winter
Watchman to the desired
setting. 5°C or 10°F below the
setting on your thermostat is
recommended. Then, if the
indoor temperature drops to
the dial setting, the lamp will
be automatically turned on to
signal your neighbor.

8.

Test the system by pressing the
red button on the Winter
Watchman. When the lamp
lights as the button is
depressed, the system is
functioning properly.

9.

Have the neighbor glance at
window (about once a day) to
see if lamp is on. If lamp is on,
the indoor temperature has
fallen and corrective action
should be taken immediately.
As long as lamp does not come
on, the house is warm.

* Maximum total wattage must not exceed 120 W.

** The receptacle and plug now have an enlarge neutral
terminal to conform to new CSA electrical equipment
safety standards. As a result it may be necessary
(depending on wall receptacle wiring configuration) to
insert the device into the wall receptacle by inverting the
Winter Watchman.

"Loading the manual" means you need to wait until the file loads and becomes available for online reading. Some manuals are very large, and the time they take to appear depends on your internet speed.
