GENERAL SUPER8 CAMERA TIPS:
More detailed camera manuals can be downloaded from:
http://www.super8aid.net/cameras.html
after registering without any cost. It is
recommended that if a person has no experience with Super8 cameras, to download a
manual. For people with prior experience, the following cheat sheet should suffice.
Be sure the camera can expose the film correctly; different cameras have differing
abilities to expose some types of film.
If the film to be used has been refrigerated be sure to let it warm up slowly to room
temperature prior to use.
To judge correct focus, zoom the lens into the subject, adjust focus, and then zoom
out to the desired focal distance.
In most circumstances 18 frames per second is fine. For fast action or quick sideways
panning, 24 frames per second is recommended. Either way check with your choice
of transfer house to see if this will be an issue.
Always use an external exposure meter independent of the camera’s exposure meter.
Due to the unavailability of correct voltage watch batteries to suit the camera
requirements, modern batteries are substituted with an error allowance of up to one
Fstop over or under exposed.
SPECIFIC SUPER8 CAMERA INSTRUCTIONS:
CANON 1218
1.
The Canon 1218 requires 5 AA batteries and two watch batteries for the
camera’s exposure meter. Exposure meter batteries will be supplied by
Mishkin Productions. AA batteries will be supplied by the “renter”.
2.
The film cartridge is placed into the side of the camera. Be sure the camera
can expose the film correctly; different cameras have differing abilities to
expose some types of film.
3.
If using a tripod, remove the handle from the camera, this will allow greater
control of camera “head shake”
4.
If shooting with lights, slide the filter button to the “light bulb” position. If
shooting in sunlight, slide the filter button to the “sun” position. If shooting
black & white, leave the filter button in the “sun” position.
5.
Film use can be monitored on the side of the camera in feet or meters. When
the film reaches the end of its length, the motor will make a distinctly
different noise. Insert a new film cartridge.
"Loading the manual" means you need to wait until the file loads and becomes available for online reading. Some manuals are very large, and the time they take to appear depends on your internet speed.
