Ford F-250 - Manual

Ford F-250

This towing capacity guide for Ford Super Duty trucks and the Escape vehicle outlines maximum loaded trailer weights based on engine, axle ratio, cab type, and transmission configuration. The document covers essential towing specifications–such as payload limits, trailer pin weight constraints, and regional compliance requirements–for models like the F-250/F-350/F-450 Super Duty trucks (including fifth-wheel configurations) and the Escape. It emphasizes adherence to state-specific regulations in areas like California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont while highlighting how different cab types and transmission options affect capacity. Key topics include axle ratio selection, trailer brake requirements, and compliance with vehicle weight standards.

How to Find Your Truck’s Axle Ratio

If you don’t know the axle ratio of your F-Series Super Duty, check

its Truck Safety Compliance Certification Label (located on the

left front door lock facing or the door latch post pillar). Below the

bar code, you’ll see the word

AXLE

and a two-digit code. Use this

chart to find the axle ratio that corresponds to that code:

towing weights for the listed early-

introduction 2008 models. It is available

only online for the benefit of customers

ordering any of these models prior to the

How to Read Charts

Select column with transmission, cab

design, and drive system (4x2 or 4x4)

you prefer. Read down column to find the

trailer weight that can be towed with

engine/axle ratio combinations listed

at left. GCWR column shows maximum

allowable combined weight of vehicle,

trailer and cargo (including passengers)

for each engine/axle ratio combination.

Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight assumes

a towing vehicle with any mandatory

options, no cargo, tongue load of 10-15%

(conventional trailer), or king pin weight

of 15-25% (fifth-wheel trailer) and driver

only (150 pounds). Weight of additional

options, passengers, cargo, and hitch

must be deducted from this weight.

"Loading the manual" means you need to wait until the file loads and becomes available for online reading. Some manuals are very large, and the time they take to appear depends on your internet speed.
