Wire Gauge and Quality

Extra resistance in the speaker wire can make a speaker sound less

dynamic and reduce definition of the bass frequencies. In extreme

cases, it can even attenuate high frequencies. Also, amplifier power

is wasted in wire with extra resistance, reducing your system‟s

maximum output level.

To prevent degrading sound quality, the total wire resistance should

be less than 10% of the speaker‟s impedance. This means that for 8-

ohm speakers like the RK10W Rock Woofer, the total resistance of

the wire should be less than 0.8 ohms. Refer to the following table

when selecting the proper wire gauge for your system.

Each Sonance RK10W Rock Woofer includes the following:

(1) RK10W Rock Woofer
(1) Removable wire termination cover plate; (4) screws

1. Dig a 4” – 5” deep trench to run the speaker wires in. You will

need a trench from the area near your amplifier to the RK10W, and

then from the RK10W to the two satellite speakers.

Installing and Connecting the RK10W

2. Run 2 lengths of the

appropriate gauge wire

through the trench from your

amplifier to the RK10W.

Connect those wires to the

RK10W according to the

illustration to the right.

3. Connect the wires from

your satellite speakers to the

RK10W according to the

illustration to the right.

IMPORTANT: Be sure not to

let any stray „+‟ and „–‟

wires touch each other.

Touching wires can cause a

short-circuit that could

damage your amplifier.

Connection

Panel

The RK10W has built-in low-pass and high-pass filters that direct the

bass frequencies to the RK10W and the rest of the sound to your

satellite speakers. This dramatically improves the satellite speakers‟

power handling.

For best sound quality, we recommend that each satellite speaker be

placed no more than 8 feet away from the RK10W. If the satellites

are placed too far away from the RK10W the woofer‟s sound will not

blend with the sound from the satellites.

4. After you have made the previous connections, connect the wires

to your amplifier. Double-check that you connected all of the wires

properly (amplifier „+‟ to speaker „+; amplifier „–‟ to speaker „–‟) at

all of the connections.

5. After confirming that you‟ve properly made all of the connections,

turn your amplifier on and test the system with your favorite music.

If the speakers are all operating properly, refill the wire trenches and

using the supplied screws, attach the wire termination cover plate to

the connector panel on the bottom of the RK10W enclosure. The

cover plate will keep moisture from damaging the connections.

"Loading the manual" means you need to wait until the file loads and becomes available for online reading. Some manuals are very large, and the time they take to appear depends on your internet speed.
