INSTRUCTION SUPPLEMENT FOR 2003-

LATER Suzuki LTZ400 and Kawasaki

KFX400

Removing stock c arburetor and c able s.


1.

Remove se at, fron t fe n d ers a n d g as ta nk.

Mak e sure fuel petcoc k is in “ON” or
“RES” position. If it is in the “ PRI”
position it will allow fuel through it.

2. Remove throttle ca ble, (an d h o using if

installing a twist kit) from throttle h o using.
Pay close atte ntio n to ro utin g wh e n
removing ca ble as th e n ew ca bles will ne e d
to o b e ro ute d th e same .

3. Discon n ect ch oke ca ble from stock

carburetor b e fore disco n n ecting it from
h a n dle b ar a n d remove.

4. Remove stock carb uretor.
5. Stuff a dry, clea n rag into th e in take

manifold to ke e p d e bris from e n tering
e n gin e .

6. Remove stock rear h e a d stay from frame

a n d h e a d .

7. Remove plastic ve nt b ox from right side of

frame alo n g with h oses.

Installing the Ede lbroc k Carburetor and

Throttle Cable s

1. Install n ew rear h e a d stay. NOTE: Start fo ur

frame b olts b efore inserting larger b olt
thro u g h stay a n d cylind er h e a d. It is
recommen d e d blu e L octite or e q uivale n t b e
use d o n frame b olts. Tigh te n frame b olts
first, th e n h e a d b olt.

2. Install large clear h ose to u p p er, rear

p oin tin g b arb (hose comes from air b o o t) o n
plastic bre ath er b ox a n d secure with clamps.

3. Remove th e rub b er carb uretor alignme nt

ta bs from th e ma nifold usin g a razor bla d e or
side cu tters.

Be c ar eful not to da mage

manifold or fingers during this proc edure!!

4. Install th e throttle ca ble into th e stock

throttle h o using. If using a twist kit, install
cables into su p plied throttle h o usin g
sup plied with kit a n d place o nto clea n
h a n dle b ar e n d .

5.

Remove th e h ex pip e plu g from th e carb ca p
using a 1 1mm or 7 /1 6 wrench.

Do not

dis c ard plug, a s it will be ne eded later.

Install th e me tering a djustme n t to ol includ e d
in th e h ardware kit.

Do not ov er-tighten a s

damage ma y oc cur to c ap.

6.

Install su p plied fu el line o n to carb uretor a n d
secure with pinch clamp.

7.

Install su p plied vacu um line o nto brass
carburetor vacu um fittin g. Se e Figure 1 .
The vacu um fittin g will have a black vinyl ca p
o n it from th e factory.

NOTE:

The vacu um line ca n b e left o ff if th e

e n gin e is run while th e p etcock is left in th e
“PRI” p osition . This may wan t to o b e
considered by racers wh o d o n ot d e p e n d o n a
reserve. If yo u ch o ose to d o this, th e black
vinyl ca p must b e le ft o n th e carburetor vacu um
fittin g a n d th e sp are ca p ca n b e place d over
th e vacu um p ort of th e p etcock.

8. Remove rag from ma nifold .

9.

Install carburetor into ma nifold a n d slip air
b o ot over b ack of carburetor.

Do not tighten

throttle ca ble into th e 8:0 0 p ositio n o f th e
cable wh e el a n d secure with clamp. Se e
fig ure 2.
