Application:
Designed for 1985-1992 Camaros and Firebirds
(except 1987-1992 Formula) with Tuned Port Injection V8s. This
brace triangulates the front end and reduces chassis flex. This stiffens the chassis for improved cornering and more
responsive steering.
Tools Needed:
In addition to common hand tools (7/16" & 9/16" wrenches, allen wrench, 3/8" 12-point socket or wrench),
you will need a tape measure and a 3/8" drill bit and drill.
INSTALLATION
1. Loosely assemble all parts as shown in
Figure 1
. Note which direction the main brace outside support brackets face
(Figures 2 & 3)
.
2. Use a tape measure to find the center of the firewall, and locate the rear support bracket so that its leading edge is flush
with the front edge of firewall. Measure from the inside of each fender to find center. Mark the location of the bolt holes
and drill two 3/8" holes.
NOTE:
The engine is
not centered
in the engine compartment;
do not
use the engine as a guide for centering the Strut
Tower Brace!
3. Install two short button head allen bolts, nuts, and washers to hold the rear support bracket in position, but do not tighten
at this time.
4. With the Strut Tower Brace
loosely assembled using two
long button head allen bolts to
the tubular braces, locate main
brace outside support brackets
over strut towers. Mark position
and drill two 3/8" holes on each
side. Note that there should be
1/8" to 1/4" air gap between
the manifold plenum top and
the strut tower brace.
5. Install and tighten all remaining
nuts, bolts and washers.
