16 – Spring Seat/Cup

DESCRIPTION:
The 5771 valve spring seat/c up kit is a replacement parts kit intended for
Edelbrock 440 Chrysler Performer RPM cylinder heads (Part #s 60149, 60189, 60919, and 60929)
and 390-428 Fe Ford Performer RPM cylinder heads (Part #s 60059, 60069, 60079, 60089). The
5770 kit is designed for use with the #5792 valve springs that are standard in complete cylinder
heads Part #s 60189, 60929, 60069, 60089. The spring seat/cup has a register for the O.D. of the
valve spring that has a 1.550” dia. and the cup O.D. is 1.70”. The spring seat register I.D. is .565”
and the thickness is .060”.
INSTALLATION NOTES
1. If this spring cup kit is used on cylinder heads manufactured prior to the introduction of
spring cups, machining to enlarge the diameter of the spring pockets will be required to
install these valve spring seat cups. A minimum valve spring counterbore diameter of
1.73” will be required.
2. The valve spring cups require the removal of the valve stem seals to be installed. We
recommend replacing the old valve seals with new valve seals. New valve seals should be
installed with engine oil applied to valve stem sealing area of the seal.
3. Valve spring installed height should be checked before the final installation of the valve spring
cups. If the installed height of the valve spring needs to be decreased a valve spring shim may
be installed between the spring cup and the cylinder head.
