The Link PCN-40 is a professional broadcast
quality encoder for combining the Luminance (Y)
and Chrominance (C) signals of a Super-VHS
signal. The unit provides two outputs of NTSC
composite video. The PCN-40 is small and
lightweight, housed in a durable high-impact
plastic case. A standard 4-pin Mini-DIN provides
the input connection while the NTSC output is
available on two BNCs. An output level trim is
available on the front panel.
Encoding is done using an all-discreet design
which combines high performance with low power
consumption. The signal is fully buffered and
capable of driving long cable runs. An onboard
voltage regulator allows the unit to be powered
from an external AC or DC supply. A wall
transformer, PWT-3512, is included.
Operating voltage range is identical to that of
modern ENG cameras (10.8 to 20VDC). The ability
to operate from an AC supply also provides
complete polarity protection of the power supply
input.
Weighing in at only 5.0 ounces (140g), the PCN-40
is perfect for field operations. The Y/C inputs are
single-ended and AC coupled. Internal jumpers
allow the input grounds to be AC coupled to the
circuit ground as well, eliminating the possibility of
ground loops.
In the PCN-40, performance, reliability, and
